60 minutes, one clock. The timer starts when you press Start and covers both tasks. At zero, whatever you have written is submitted for marking.
Task 2 counts twice as much as Task 1. A sensible split is about 20 minutes on Task 1 and 40 on Task 2. You can switch between the tasks at any time.
No spell-checker, as in the real test. Spelling and grammar are yours alone here, so leave two or three minutes at the end to read your work through.
Saved as you type. Your writing is kept on this device, so an accidental refresh will not lose it.
Your band will be an estimate
Each task is marked on the four public criteria — task achievement, coherence, vocabulary and grammar — with feedback on how to reach the next band. Marking can take up to a minute. Trained human examiners may differ by half a band or more, and Bandwise is independent of the organisations that run IELTS.
